The Chevrolet Cobalt was released as a 2005 model in 2004. This car was manufactured to replace the pre-existing Chevy Cavalier and Prizm, as Chevrolet’s new compact car.
The Cobalt uses the GM Delta platform which is shared with the Pontiac G5, Astra, Chevrolet HHR, at the Lordstown Assembly Plant in Lordstown, Ohio.
In 2009 a global brother of this model known as the Chevrolet Cruze will be launched using the Delta II Platform in Europe, and alongside the Cobalt in the United States in 2010.

The 2009 Cobalt is mated with five speed manual as the standard transmission, while it offers four-peed automatic as optional. Both offer excellent control over the drivetrain and help to bring out the full potential of the vehicle.

2006 Chevy Cobalt 2.4 Liter Eco Tec Engine

In 2006 Chevrolet added a non supercharged version using a 2.4L Ecotec inline 4 engine was added to the list of models. The models at this point in order of cost are the LS base model, the mid range LT and the top of the line LTZ, all now marked with the “Mark of Excellence” on the fenders.

2007 Model Updated Performance And Gas Mileage

In 2007 the engines in all models were tuned up while keeping the same gas mileage. A new console was added as well as a new steering wheel, a new radio faceplate.

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Turbo Charged 260 Horse Power Edition

A new 260 HP turbocharged engine was added, as well as an increase in gas mileage to 25 City / 36 Highway. New features at this point include XM Radio, side impact air bags, and MP3 player, all standard. Stabilitrak is now offered, a huge innovation for the model. Exterior wise the only difference is less colors to choose from.

The heart of the turbo model is its engine. It is designed as a direct injection, turbo charged version of the same 2.2 liter vehicle, and can now deliver up to 260 hp and torque of 260 lb ft. The turbo model has been available since the 2008 model year and is used in most of the cars like Saturn Sky red Line and Pontiac Solstice GXP. The turbo engine can achieve fuel economy of up to 35 miles per gallon on the highway roads.

With the use of turbocharged engine, this Chevrolet model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilo meters per hour in a time of just 5.7 seconds. So as to match the performance of the turbo engine, the compact car is featured with 18 inch corvette inspired wheels.

Other Engine Options

The LS, LT and base models are powered by a standard 2.2 liter four-cylinder engine paired to a standard 5-speed manual transmission and it also offers 4-speed automatic transmission as optional, whereas the SS turbocharged version is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Chevorlet Cobalt LS model is featured with the amenities like front bucket seats, 15 inch steel wheels, air conditioning, front side air bags, satellite radio and front bucket seats with a fold down rear seat.

Other Standard Features

The Chevorlet Cobalt base model is featured with all the standard features as the LS except air conditioning, whereas the LT version has added amenities like power windows, door locks and mirrors, front and rear carpeted floor mats, remote keyless entry and premium cloth seat. The SS model has the same features along with some added contents like upgraded radio, leather steering wheel, 18 inch aluminum wheels, leather gear shift knob, cruise control, rear spoiler and antilock disc brakes.
