The new LTZ sedan was introduced in the 06 cobalt models, and even the coupe designs were launched in the year 2006. The major competitors to the 06 Cobalt were Chrysler PT Cruiser, Mazda 3, Pontiac Vibe, Honda Civic, and Toyota Matrix.
The excellent fuel economy and powerful acceleration impressed the potential customers to a great deal, but high engine noise, poor rear-seat room, and lack of rear-seat entry/exit did put off many of them.
Features
Considering the standard and optional features, the SS and Supercharged variants were made available with updated suspension, rear disc brakes, sporty styling add-ons and few more minor enhancements, while curtain side airbags and front side airbags were also offered as standard. Moreover, all Chevy Cobalt models had 60/40 split folding rear seat, though they lacked the entry/exit option. The OnStar assistance and few other features were given optionally.
Powertrain
Turning the focus towards engine power, the SS models delivered 171 hp, the SS Supercharged trim could deliver 205hp, while the rest of the 06 Cobalt models could produce 145 hp of power, and had promising towing capabilities. The basic design remained same across all variants and they were all equipped with the 4-cyl powertrains.
